North East Quality Observatory

Our Purpose

The North East Quality Observatory System (NEQOS) was established in 2009 by the North East Strategic Health Authority (SHA) in response to Lord Darzi’s High Quality Care For All report which recommended a quality observatory system was set up in each SHA area.

Our main purpose is to drive improvement in health care quality through measurement.

We also aim to become a regional hub of information on health care quality measurement so supporting clinicians, health care providers and commissioners in improving the effectiveness of services, patient safety, patient experience and efficiency.

Our key purpose is:

Primary purpose: to support the delivery of agreed strategies (including Our vision our future and Safer care north east), using measures of progress

Secondary purpose: to develop a more systematic, comprehensive approach to identifying problems and successes in health care quality using surveillance measures.
