Cohort study to explore the association between the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and admissions for violence in North East and North Cumbria

NEQOS have been involved in producing an article, recently published in the BMJ, exploring the association between the COVID-19 pandemic and admissions for violence in the North East and North Cumbria.

Results found that emergency admissions with violence have been impacted on by the COVID-19 pandemic and were initially higher than before the first national lockdown (In the context of overall A&E attendances which are lower post lockdown). Given that emergency admissions with violence have been consistently higher in the NENC compared with England over recent years, the report ended with the suggestion that positive action is required in the North East and North Cumbria (NENC) to understand more fully the role of violence in the health of those in NENC and its relationship with the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated lockdowns.
